Harold Lyle Moffatt was born August 12, 1922 on the family farm near Westfield, Iowa, the son of Christy and Esther (Boyd) Moffatt. He attended country school near Westfield and later high school in Westfield. He graduated from Westfield High School in 1940.

Following his graduation, he worked for various farmers near Westfield and worked at the packing house in Sioux City during the WWII era. Later, Harold did custom threshing in North Dakota and South Dakota for a few years, until he began driving truck for Frank Willer out of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It was during this time, he met his future wife, Helen Engesmoe. They were united in marriage on September 9, 1950 in Hendricks, Minnesota. The couple farmed for many years near Akron. In September of 1990, they retired and moved to Akron.

Following his retirement, Harold’s passion for 37’ Ford Trucks continued. With his mechanical ability, he was able to restore them and rebuild any flat head Ford motor he could find.

Harold was a member of New Horizons United Church of Christ in Akron. During his farming years, he was a member of Farm Bureau. He enjoyed bowling and fishing. But most of all, he loved the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of over 58 years, Helen of Akron; 4 children: Dianna Ellerbroek and her husband Mark of Ely, MN, Larry Moffatt and his wife Diane of Akron, Karen Joslin and her husband Ron of Fordyce, NE, and Gary Moffatt and his wife Toshia of Hawarden, IA; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother: Frank Moffatt and his wife Kay of Sioux City, IA; a sister: Lucille Harkness and her husband Everett of Le Mars, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and his wife: Allen and Viola Moffatt; and a great granddaughter: Brittany Joslin on September 16, 2004.

Memorials can be made in Harold’s name to Hospice of Siouxland.
