Mary Ellen McCoy, 79, of Sioux City, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Nickolas Becker officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Remsen, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mary Ellen McCoy was born Dec. 5, 1923, in Sioux City, the daughter of John J. and Dorothy A. (Meinert) McCoy. She was a dispensing optician for Dr. D.W. Sullivan and Dr. John M. McCoy. She retired in 1995.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Catholic Women's League, the Carmelite Guild and the Blessed Sacrament 55+ Club. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Mary Ellen was a lifelong Sioux City resident.

Survivors include two brothers, Roger McCoy and his wife, Della of Sioux City, and Dr. John McCoy of Sioux City; three sisters, Dorothy Groves and her husband, Varnel of West Des Moines, Iowa, Judy Thieme and her husband, Ed of Centennial, Colo., and Nancy Campbell of LaCrescenta, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marian Connolly and Carlos Simpson; a brother, Richard McCoy; and two infant brothers.

Pallbearers will be Kevin McCoy, Joel Rahn, Philip Rahn, Jim McCoy, Ed Hollingsworth and Timothy Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Groves, Kelly McCoy, Daniel Campbell and John Groves.
