LE MARS, Iowa -- Merri (Roe) McCrea, 43, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Le Mars, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, in Austin after a courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Le Mars. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be noon until service time Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Merri Lee Roe was born Oct. 18, 1959, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of R. Gene and Virginia "Gini" Ann (Cox) Roe. She was baptized and confirmed at First United Methodist Church in Le Mars. She was raised and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1978. She later attended and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1983, with a major in history education and a minor in Spanish.
She was united in marriage to Thomas E. McCrea on April 9, 1983, at First United Methodist Church in Le Mars.
She loved to dance, play the guitar, sing, read and write poetry, short stories and novels. She was beloved by all who knew her and found great joy in being a wife and mother.
Survivors include her husband, Tom McCrea of Austin; two children, Kent Thomas and Tory Elizabeth, both of Austin; her mother, Gini Roe of Le Mars; two sisters, Terri L. and her husband, Kirk Henderson, of Waterloo, Iowa, and Lori A. Roe of Le Mars; a brother-in-law, David Ruden of Le Mars; maternal grandmother, Maude Johnson of Le Mars; two nieces, Heidi (Henderson) and her husband, Chris Wilson, of Lincoln, Neb., and Lexi Koopman of Le Mars; several aunts, uncles and cousins; father-in-law, the Rev. Earle McCrea and his wife, Martha, of Waterloo, Iowa; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Nancy and Daryl Moore and Lois Ann and Gary Naylor; a brother-in-law and his wife, the Rev. Jim and Delight McCrea; and nieces and nephews, Rachel and John Godsman, Matt Moore, Michelle and Gary Neubauer, Kristi and Gary Abuhl, Jeff and Jenny Naylor, Amber McCrea and Austin McCrea.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Roe; and mother-in-law, Helen McCrea.
