MERRILL, Iowa—Harold Franklin Tschampel, 81, of Merrill died Wednesday, May 22, 1996, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the Merrill First United Methodist church with the Rev. Fred Malone officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mr. Tschampel was born Dec. 22, 1914, at Westfield, the son of Frank and Bertha (Terborg) Tschampel. The family moved to a farm north of LeMars when he was 3 years old. He received his education in LeMars.

On June 14, 1945, he married Ethel Kehrberg at the Merrill United Methodist church. The couple farmed east of Merrill for many years, retiring in 1985. They continued to live on the farm. He became a resident of Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in January 1996. He enjoyed camping, traveling, and his small collection of toy farm tractors.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Karen and Vernon Harrington of LeMars; a son and his wife, Jack and Ann Tschampel of LeMars; four grandchildren, Beth Adams, Audra Harrington, Dustin and Dawn Tschampel; and two great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Peter Nilles, William Scheitler, James Hoss, Thomas Fischer, Loren Harrington, and Lawrence Johnson.
