Erla Lamp, 79, of Le Mars, died peacefully Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Society Le Mars.

The former Erla Mae Ellis was born Feb. 10, 1929, at Madison, S.D., the daughter of John and Clara (Mathison) Ellis. She grew up in Madison and graduated from Madison High School in 1947. Erla married Melvin "Bud" Lamp on May 3, 1949 in Colman, S.D. Following their marriage the couple lived near Flandreau, S.D., for a few years and then moved to Madison, S.D.

In 1956 the couple moved to Le Mars. Erla had worked for Gambles, Reuter's Flooring, and Sherwin Williams in Le Mars. She then opened her own store named Designers Cove in Le Mars, where she featured her interior design consultation, wall coverings, window treatments, and crafts on consignment.

Erla was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars and the Altar Society, Eagles Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She loved bowling and was an avid league bowler in her younger years. She loved the art of crafting and teaching her grandchildren the art of crafting. She enjoyed baking, dancing, singing, and most of all loved yodeling. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include three children: Jeffrey Lamp and his wife Vicki of Le Mars, James Lamp of Le Mars, and Judy Lamp of Rowlett, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren: John Lamp Jr. and his wife Kathy and their children Alex, Jordan and Darcy of Webster City; Troy Lamp and his wife Becky and their children Dylan, Brady, and Kelsie of Remsen; Jeremy (Lamp) Turner and his wife Shawna and their children Isaiah, and Isabel of Iowa Falls; Brent Lamp and his son Tyson of Sioux City; Misty Oppedal and her husband Andy and their son Jason of Craig; Tonya Franck and her husband Rob and their children David, Jessica, Cody, Gabriel and Aisea of Merrill; Chad Lamp and his wife Staci and their children Nicholas, Cheyanne, Jeffrey and Alyssa of Le Mars; Heather Smithson and her husband Greg and their children Tyler, Melany, Dylan, Drew and Jasmen of Avondale, Ariz.; Dawn Fifita and her children Tony, Michael, Sione and Andrew of Le Mars; Gina Lamp and her special friend Joe West and their daughter Carley of Akron; Stephanie Hargens and her husband Mike and their soon-to-be child of Le Mars; and Sarah Chipman of Fate, Texas; a sister Jackie Vanhove of Madison, S.D.; and three sisters-in-law: Judy Ellis of Santa Rosa, Calif., Imogene Ellis of Madison, S.D., and Helen Noteboom and her husband Gerald of Houston, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Melvin "Bud" Lamp April 30, 1993; a son John Lamp July 18, 1999; two brothers: Robert and Donald Ellis; and two sisters: Betty Lockheart and Geraldine "Geri" Hagan.

A Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation was after 3 p.m. Sunday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there was a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers were Chad Lamp, David Lamp, Jeremy Lamp, Robert Franck, Joe West and Mike Hargens.
