DOROTHY LARSEN

Miss Dorothy Larsen, well known LeMars resident, passed away May 13, 1959, at the Sacred Heart hospital where she had been a patient only two weeks. Her home was at 530 1st Ave. SW, in LeMars.

Dorothy was born May 6, 1917, in LeMars, the daughter of the late Ellen Bolser Larsen and Dr. W.W. Larsen, prominent LeMars doctor. She was graduated from LeMars High School and received her B.A. degree from Carleton College and attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial school in New York.

She received her B.S. degree from Teachers College Library, Columbia University in New York and her Master Degree in Adult Education from Columbia University. She did graduate work at the University of Chicago Library of Science and was librarian at Teacher’s College, Columbia University, New York and librarian at Westmar College where she was currently assistant librarian. She had also been librarian at Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls.

Miss Larsen was a member of the Presbyterian church; the TIT; American Association of University Professors; American Library Association; Iowa Library Association and many local organizations and activities.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 15, at the First Presbyterian church, LeMars with Rev. James D. Ransom officiating. Burial will be in the city cemetery under the direction of the Mauer funeral home.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Robert Roseberry of LeMars and a nephew and niece, William Roseberry and Susan Roseberry.

There will be a prayer service for family and friends at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at the Mauer Funeral Home.
