Lifetime resident of Le Mars dies

Ferne I. Maxwell, 90, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, December 10, 1991, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars with the Rev. Robert Grupp officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Miss Maxwell was born in Le Mars on Jan. 5, 1901, the daughter of Hugh and Isabel (Watson) Maxwell. She graduated from Le Mars High School and Ellis Beauty School in Sioux City. She later worked as a beautician in Cheyenne, Wyo., for several years. She then attended Westmar College in Le Mars and taught in Plymouth County rural school for several years. She also was a cook at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center. She lived south of Le Mars in Union Township until moving to Floyd Valley Apartments. She resided at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center for the past four months.

Miss Maxwell was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Le Mars and Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include two nephews and their wives, Dennis Hart and Caroline of San Carlos, Calif., and Richard Hart and Esther of Ridgecrest, Calif; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William Maxwell; and two sisters, Anna Hart and Clara Maxwell.
