Louise Scott, 87 was longtime home ec teacher at Teachers College

Lifelong Le Mars area resident Louise Scott, 87, died Thursday (Feb. 23, 1984) at her home in Le Mars.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Edward Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Le Mars Memorial Cemetery.

The former Louise Adler, she was born Feb. 16, 1897, in rural Le Mars to Christian and Pauline Adler. Her father died when she was 1 ½ years old and her mother and five children moved to Le Mars.

After completing high school in 1913, she attended Western Union College for a year and graduated in 1922 from Iowa State Teachers College. After graduate work at Columbia University she returned to Iowa State Teachers College as a member of the home economics faculty. She taught at Cedar Falls until her marriage to William K. Scott in 1927.

After the death of her husband, she worked with the Iowa Extension Service and State Department of Health for several years. She later went into girl scouting as an executive at Topeka, Kan., and later in Wisconsin.

Mrs. Scott retired in 1965 and moved to Le Mars where she lived with her sister, Lydia Adler. She was active in community projects such as Gray Ladies at Sacred Heart Hospital, Volunteer Service at the Plymouth County Home and Brentwood, Council of Church Women United and Calvary United Methodist Church committee worker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Jean Stelpflug in 1972; two sisters, Lydia and Sophia, and two brothers, Samuel and Earnest F. Adler.

Her survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Thomas Shartle Jr. of Montezuma, N.M.; four grandchildren, Scott Shartle and Wade Shartle and Mrs. Al Boenig, all in Texas, and Paula Stelpflug Hanno of Le Mars; five great-grandchildren; two nephews, Dr. Gerald Adler and Samuel E. Adler and a niece, Dr. Shirley Howard.
