Linda Bouma, 48, of Le Mars, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family, on Thursday Oct. 16, 2008, following a lengthy illness.
The former Linda Ann Freking was born June 14, 1960, in Le Mars, the daughter of Herman "Junior" and Betty Freking. She grew up on a farm near Le Mars and graduated from Gehlen Catholic High School in 1979. Following graduation, she attended Business College in Spencer.
Linda married Don Bouma Jan. 15, 1983, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. The couple lived on a farm north of Oyens, where she helped her husband with the farming for 12 years. In 1995 they moved into Le Mars but continued to farm in the Oyens area.
Linda was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, the Christian Mother's Society and Catholic Daughters of America.
She enjoyed walking, traveling and attending her sons' athletic events. Linda enjoyed very much the times spent with family; brothers, sisters, in-laws and nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her husband Don Bouma of Le Mars; four sons: Aaron, Chris, Trevor and Payton, all of Le Mars; her mother Betty Freking of Le Mars; 12 sisters and brothers: Mary Kay (Rick) Juhl of Le Mars, Steve (Cayla) Freking of Wichita, Kan., Diane (Rick) Baack of Le Mars, Randy (Lisa) Freking of Le Mars, Christy (Todd) Siders of Boise, Idaho, Dale (Lisé) Freking of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Jeff (Annette) Freking of Le Mars, Dean (Julie) Freking of Milton, Mass., Jerry (Rebecca) Freking of Fort Washington, Md., Chuck (Shelly) Freking of Grimes, Doug (Jen) Freking of Cumming, and Angie (Dennis) Meister of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister-in-law Karen (Lance) Musselman of Denver, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Herman Freking, Jr.; a sister-in-law Mary (Schroeder) Freking; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law Melvin (Bud) and Fern Bouma.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars where there will be a Gehlen Catholic School rosary at 5 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. and a combined rosary by the Christian Mothers Society and Catholic Daughters of America at 8 p.m. The Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.
Linda's eight brothers, Steve, Randy, Dale, Jeff, Dean, Jerry, Chuck and Doug, will be pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Sherry Hill, Anne Lubben, Terri Campbell, Ramona Ashmore, Carol Kessenich, Cindy O'Kane, Rae Seizys, Julie Deevers-Rich, Jill Bunkers, and Laura Glanz.
