SCHIPPER FUNERAL WAS SATURDAY
Funeral services for Glenn Schipper, former LeMars man, of Sheldon were held Saturday, June 6, 1959, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon. Father Hyland officiated at the 9 a.m. rites. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, LeMars under the direction of Vander Ploeg funeral home. Father L.J. Lavelle, pastor of St. James Catholic church, LeMars, officiated at graveside services here.
Mr. Schipper was killed Thursday morning in a plane crash near Hartley. Also killed was Lambert Flechter of Hartley, an instructor. A routine investigation as to the cause of the accident was being conducted by the Federal Aviation agency in Des Moines. Mr. Schipper was crushed in the Cessna plane when it was demolished.
Wendell Schipper of Camp LeJeune, N.C., is enroute home but will not arrive until Monday.
Mr. Schipper was born July 27, 1926, at LeMars. He was graduated from the LeMars public schools. He married Betty Hart on Oct. 23, 1950, at LeMars. The coupled then moved to Sheldon, where Mr. Schipper was associated with the Culligan Soft Water Co. for 10 years.
He was a second lieutenant in the army during World War II. He was a member of McGlothlen-Cowie Post 145 of the American Legion, the Elks Club in LeMars, Iowa, Trap Shooting Association, National Skeet Shooting Association, and Izaak Walton League.
Mr. Schipper was a captain in the Sheldon National Guard.
Survivors include the widow; two sons, Scott and Mark, all of Sheldon; two brothers, Lee of LeMars and Wendell of Camp LeJeune, N.C.; a sister, Miss Karen Jean Schipper of LeMars and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Schipper, of LeMars.
