Terry L. Oltmanns, 46, of Craig, died suddenly Friday evening, June 25, 2004, from injuries from a motorcycle accident north of Craig.
Terry Lee Oltmanns was born Aug. 23, 1957, in Le Mars, the son of Larry and LaDonna (Klave) Oltmanns. Terry was baptized and confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig. He attended elementary school in Craig and later school in Le Mars. graduating from Le Mars Community High School in 1975. Following high school, Terry went to work for Lester's, a steel building construction company, working on a concrete crew. While working for Lester's, Terry traveled the Midwest. After several years with Lester's, Terry went to work for Harker's at the Orange City production facility for 15 years. While at Harker's, Terry worked in the freezer.
For a number of years, Terry worked part-time for the Klohs family at the Boat Farm near Le Mars. In the late 1980s, Terry became full-time with the Boat Farm where he had worked since.
Terry enjoyed golfing, fishing and boating. He enjoyed spending time with his family at a trailer he shared with his sister and her family on Lake Shetek in southern Minnesota. Terry also helped his brother Chad every year during harvest on the farm. He was always fanatic about cleaning and polishing cars and tractors. To his brother, he was the "wax-man." In later years, Terry enjoyed watching NASCAR races.
Terry was a very quiet man; a man who people would listen to when he spoke. His family and friends will always remember his gentle spirit and kind heart.
Terry was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Craig and a member of the Le Mars Eagle's Club.
Survivors include his parents, Larry and LaDonna Oltmanns of Craig; a sister and brother-in-law and family, Marla and Scott Koopman and their children, Tyler and Nicole; a brother and his friend, Chad Oltmanns and Jennifer Hillrichs of Ireton; several aunts and uncles, Jerlois and Wilbur Renken of Le Mars, Joyce and Roger Lunstra of Sioux Falls, S.D., Merlyn and MaryAnn Miller of Cherokee, LouDell Schuette of Craig, Wayne and Vickie Schuette of Spirit Lake, Marlene and Ron Hanstein of Le Mars, and Karen Schoenrock of Hinton; and many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by an aunt, LaVonne Miller; an uncle, Jerry Schoenrock; and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig with the Rev. Pete Petersen officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery at Craig. Visitations will be after 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 7 p.m. prayer service Monday evening at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Keith Renken, Jay Miller, Kent Hanstein, Jason Schoenrock, Bill Klohs, Gene Pageler, Gary Schiltz, and Glenn Moller.
