Orval Grasz, 81, of Craig, died suddenly, Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at his home in Craig.

Orval Joyce Grasz was born Jan. 11, 1926, on the family farm in Plymouth County, the son of Alfred and Hannah (Wilken) Grasz. He attended country school and served his country during World War II in the United States Army.

Orval was united in marriage to Jeanine Baack on Dec. 5, 1948, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Craig. Orval and Jeanine farmed South of Craig for 24 years. In 1973 they moved to Craig and Orval drove truck for Hutton Trucking and later worked for Better Flow Gutters. From 1981 to 1991 he worked for Grasz CO-OP.

Orval enjoyed camping, fishing and doing jig-saw puzzles. He was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Craig.

Survivors include his six children: James and Rhonda Grasz of Craig, Diane Grasz of Yutan, Neb., Danny Grasz of Portland, Ore., Nancy Grasz of Council Bluffs, Joyce and Doug DeRocher of Merrill, and Lori Grasz of Lincoln, Neb.; 12 grandchildren: Shawn Grasz, Shane Grasz, Seth Grasz, Matt DeVries, Sara DeVries, Jessica DeVries, Bart DeRocher, Jill DeRocher, Ashley DeRocher, Allison DeRocher, Grant DeRocher, and Drew Zobel; three great-grandchildren: Autumn, Taylor and Kayden; three brothers: Lester and Ruth Grasz, Larry and Dorothy Grasz, and Vernon and Pat Grasz, all of Le Mars; a sister-in-law, Sally Grasz of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

Orval was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jeanine Grasz on April 25, 2003; and a brother Norman Grasz.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. Marvin Mueller of St. John's Lutheran Church in Craig officiating. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Interment with military honors provided by the Heeren-McHale-Wilken American Legion Post #724 of Brunsville will be in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Craig at 3:30 p.m.
