Helen Johanna Schuette, 82, of Remsen, formerly of the Le Mars and Craig areas, died, Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Helen was born March 27, 1924, in Howard, S.D., the daughter of Henry J. and Hedwig J. (Ladwig) Schomacker. She graduated from eighth grade in Larchwood, Iowa. On June 6, 1942, she married Elmer C. Schuette in Rolla, Mo. After their marriage they lived in Le Mars, both working for Wells' Dairy. In 1950, they started farming in the Merrill area until 1966, after which they moved to Craig. She worked at Aalfs sewing before working at Harker's for 18 years until her retirement.
She had resided in Le Mars and Remsen before moving to Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, in 2004.
She was a long time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Craig, and was currently a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, line dancing, fishing, sewing, crocheting, family and friends.
Survivors include her three daughters, Susan Henrich and her husband, Gayle of Remsen, Sandra Kroeger and her husband, Dennis of Remsen, and Lori Willer and Neil Lux of Sioux Center; one son, Dennis Schuette and his wife, Joan of Brandon, S.D.; eight grandchildren, Tina Koerselman, Megan Luken, Whitney Luken and Crystal Steuerwald, C. J. Henrich, Jed Henrich, Kurtis Kroeger and Kory Kroeger, and six great-grandchildren, Brooke Koerselman, Brialle Koerselman, Mackenna Henrich, Chase Steuerwald Caedyn Henrich and Ty Reinke. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Pearl Schomacker of Luverne, Minn., Martha Schomacker of Hills, Minn., and Christina Schomacker of Luverne, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Elmer, and three brothers, Robert, Roy and Donald.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Duane Miesner officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Craig. Visitation begins after 2 p.m. today (Friday), with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m.,all at the Mauer ~ Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the funeral service Saturday at the Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen.
