Eldon Kallsen, 96, of Le Mars, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Eldon Peter Fred Kallsen was born Sept. 10, 1910, on the family farm in Preston Township, rural Akron, the son of Arthur and Clara (Oloff) Kallsen. Eldon was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Preston Township and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Craig. Eldon attended country school in Preston Township. Eldon was united in marriage to Minnie Tapper on Sept. 10, 1930, at St. John Lutheran Church in Preston Township, rural Akron. The couple farmed and raised livestock for 45 years in Preston and Grant Townships, Minnie and Eldon retired in 1975 and continued to live on the farm until 1988 when they moved to Le Mars.

Eldon was an active member of St. John's Lutheran in Craig, having served his church in many offices. He was one of the original charter members of the church. He had also served as a director for the Plymouth Oil Coop and the Farmers Coop in Craig for many years.

Eldon had a love of farming and raising pure breed Hereford cattle. Throughout his retirement years, Eldon always stayed in touch with different farming practices and enjoyed watching cattle sales. He enjoyed watching following the success of his favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees.

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Evelyn Kallsen of Le Mars; a stepsister, Ruth Kirchoff of Springfield, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Clara (Oloff) Kallsen; his wife, Minnie who died Jan, 24, 2003; and a sister, Edna Kallsen.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, with the Rev. Marvin Mueller officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Gary Kallsen, Dennis Kallsen, Mark Mayrose, Ralph Klemme, Gerald Klemme, and Robert Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Geraldine Brown, Orville Tapper, Orlin Hein, Gaylen Tapper, Lynette Altena, Dean Oloff, and LaNay Welch.
