Mildred Schulz, 86, of Le Mars, died Friday, May 5, 2006, at Good Samaritan Village (Brentwood) in Le Mars.

Mildred Louise Kruse was born May 10, 1919, on the family farm in Grant Township to Harm and Anna (Nannen) Kruse. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Mildred attended country school near her home.

Mildred was united in marriage to Kenneth Schulz on Jan. 15, 1942, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Preston Township, rural Akron. Mildred and Kenneth farmed north of Brunsville for many years. Kenneth died Aug. 28, 1966.

In 1967 Mildred and her children moved to Le Mars. Mildred worked at Westmar College for 20 years.

Through the years, Mildred enjoyed volunteering at Brentwood and also helping others with whatever she could. She was very talented in crocheting and embroidering. She also enjoyed bowling and playing cards with friends. Mildred was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her children: Richard and his wife Cindy Schulz of Maineville, Ohio and Sharon and her husband Dave Bortscheller of Remsen; six grandchildren, Monte Schulz of Chicago, Ill., Jason and his wife Darla Schulz of Sioux Falls, S.D., Amanda Ross of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Scott, Sara, and Stacie Bortscheller, all of Remsen; a great-grandson, Brady Schulz of Sioux Falls; a sister, Edna Schubbe of Peotone, Ill.; three brothers-in-law, Herman Schulz, Melvin and his wife Virginia Schulz, and Bennie Ahrendt, all of Le Mars; a sister-in-law, Arlene McHale of Craig; and several nieces and nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Harm and Anna (Nannen) Kruse; her husband Kenneth in 1966; her son Larry in 1986; and seven brothers, Harm, John, Elmer, George, Louis, Bill, and Herman Kruse.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Interment will be around 4 p.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Craig. Visitation was after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 5 p.m. prayer service.

Pallbearers will be Scott Bortscheller, Monte Schulz, Jerry Hartman, Bruce Kruse, Ralph Kruse, and Tom Kruse.
