Elvira Schulz, 92, of Le Mars, died Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Good Samaritan Village (Brentwood) in Le Mars.

Elvira Lois Nettie Utesch was born April 12, 1915, at Yankton, S.D., the daughter of William and Bertha (Gardner) Utesch. Elvira was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She began her education at a country school in Washington Township and graduated from Merrill High School in 1933. Elvira was united in marriage to Ivan Schulz on Jan. 23, 1936 at Ottumwa.

Elvira and Ivan lived in Craig where she worked at a grocery store. They later moved to Remsen and then to Le Mars. Elvira had worked for five years with the Selective Service Board. She enjoyed volunteering at church to help out wherever needed. She was also a member of the W.E.L.C.A. and participated in the Rachel Circle for many years. Elvira enjoyed making afghans, crocheting, quilting and reading. Elvira had made her home at Brentwood Good Samaritan Village since August 2004.

Survivors include her daughter, Sheryl Oetken and her husband Warren of Merrill; a daughter-in-law, Hyon Sik Schulz of Buford, Ga.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Jeff Oetken and his wife Mickey of Plattsmouth, Neb., and their daughter Whitney, Lori Oetken of Sioux City and her son Logan, Stacie Schultz and her husband Lance of Lake City, and their children Sydnie and Madison, Kelli Wilson and her husband Will of Dakota Dunes, S.D., and their children Parker and Preston, Denise Schulz of Hickory, N.C., and Deborah Schulz of Buford, Ga.; a brother, Ronald Utesch of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

Elvira was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bertha (Gardner) Utesch; husband Ivan who died Jan. 23, 1996; her son, Gary who died May 16, 2001; four brothers, Everett, Art, Arnold, and Donald Utesch; and a sister, Leila Kruse.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Craig. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present after 6 p.m. to greet friends followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service, all at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Oetken, Lance Schultz, David Kruse, Eugene Kruse, Bruce Kruse, and Roger Kruse. Honorary casketbearers will be her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Barb Kruse, and Joni Steinke.
