DAKOTA CITY—Thyra Ellen Rasmussen, 96, of Dakota City died Monday, April 16, 2001, at a South Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Alex Washington officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rasmussen was born June 20, 1904, in Kingsley, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Edna (Anderson) Cagley. She attended and graduated from Kingsley High School. She then attended Northern Teachers College.
She married Andrew Rasmussen in 1926, in LeMars, Iowa.
She taught rural school in the Kingsley area and then was a homemaker. She was later employed as a dietician with St. Luke's Regional Medical Center for over 15 years. Her husband died in May 1971.
She lived in Siouxland except for 12 years she lived in Phoenix, Ariz.
She attended Congregational Church in Kingsley and enjoyed cooking and needlework.
Survivors include three sons, Wayne and his wife, Shirley of Sioux City, Niel and his wife, Elaine of Franklin, Ky, and Gary of Dakota City; two daughters, Betty Watts of Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Darlene Rasmussen of South Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Sharon Naples, Nancy Snailum, Debbie Goeders and Sandy, Lorie, Tom and Keith Rasmussen; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Clarence and Robert; a son-in-law, Robert Watts; and a grandson, Mark Watts.
Pallbearers will be Tom and Keith Rasmussen, Mike and Aaron Goeders, Douglas Rice and Jim Calhoon.
