MERRILL, Iowa -- Jim Pick, 76, of Merrill, formerly of Remsen, Iowa, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hart of Remsen and the Rev. Robert Waters of Merrill officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 220 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3328. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mr. Pick was born Oct. 17, 1925, in rural Remsen, the son of Tony and Regina (Roling) Pick. He was raised and educated in the Remsen area, and was then engaged in farming near Remsen. In 1943 he entered the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II, being discharged in 1945. He then returned to the Remsen area to resume farming.

He married Cleo Haupert on Jan. 17, 1949, in Granville. They made their home southeast of Remsen, where they were engaged in dairy farming. Cleo died Sept. 2, 1977. He moved to Merrill in April 1999.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, David and Mary Ann of Merrill, Tony and Becky of Le Mars, Iowa, and Louis and Connie of Remsen; nine daughters and their husbands, Charlotte and Dennis Stark of Des Moines, Diann and Dave Conrad of Sioux City, Joyce and Mike Crawford of Remsen, Paula and Delvin Bottjen of Kingsley, Iowa, Marilyn and Paul McClernon of Tempe, Ariz., Lori and Curtis Vore, Peggy and Paul Kessenich, Lisa and Doug McClure and Jamie and Bill Anderson, all of Merrill; 39 grandchildren; two sisters, Rita Wanderscheid of Le Mars, and Edna and her husband, Cyril Haupert of Granville, Iowa; and three sisters-in-law, Mert Pick and Carol Pick, both of Remsen, and Virginia Marklein of Granville.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alfred, Milo and Darold; and a sister, Addie George.

Pallbearers will be Danny Pick, Brian Stark, Reed Pick, Nicholas Pick, Jesse Conrad, Mckale Crawford and Elliott Bottjen.
