Deloris "Dee" Udell, 73, of Hinton, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Deloris "Dee" Gail Jutting was born April 11, 1935, in Henry, S.D., the daughter of Wesley and Mayme (Petersen) Jutting. Dee attended school in Watertown, S.D., and graduated from Watertown High School. Following graduation she attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., studying to become a medical tech. After her school, Dee accepted position with Methodist Hospital in Sioux City where she worked for several years.

Dee was united in marriage to Donald Udell on Sept. 14, 1958, in Watertown, S.D. Dee and Don were blessed with four children: Brett, Pam, Jodi, and Lori. Dee and Don farmed and raised cattle and hogs in Perry Township for 45 years. Don died on May 10, 2004.

Dee enjoyed attending her children's and later her grandchildren's activities, from sports to music to dance recitals. She loved to have the family over to her house for holidays and other events. She will be remembered as an awesome cook. She liked to play cards with her grandchildren and also belonged to a couple of card clubs. It was with these card clubs she enjoyed visiting with many friends.

Her family will remember her for her compassionate spirit and unselfishness.

Survivors include her four children: Brett and Becky Udell of Hinton and their children Mitchell and Madison, Pam and Mark Johnson of Maurice and their children Matthew and Bradley, Jodi and Bill Schindel of Hinton and their children Jamie and Brandi, and Lori and Barry Kounkel of Sloan and their children Sidney and Joel; a sister, Carol and her husband Ken Roethler of Watertown, S.D.; in-laws: Caroline and Tom Rentel of Hinton and Glen and Marilyn Udell of Hinton; and several nieces and nephews.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Mayme (Petersen) Jutting; her husband, Donald Udell in May 2004; and a sister, Cleo Olson.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hinton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jason Larson officiating. Private family interment will be Thursday morning in the Liberty/Perry Township Cemetery. Visitations with the family present will be after 5 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Pallbearers will be Mitchell and Madison Udell, Matthew and Bradley Johnson, Jamie and Brandi Schindel, Sidney and Joel Kounkel, Glen Udell, and Armin Bennett.

Memorials may be directed to Hinton United Methodist Church or the Plymouth County Fair.
