REMSEN, Iowa -- Kathleen Hatz, 83, of Le Mars, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City and Remsen, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Revs. Timothy Johnson and James Tigges and Deacon Donald Kunkel officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Kathleen was born Aug. 17, 1919, in Remsen, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Arens) Hatz Sr. She was raised in Remsen and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1937. She attended Western Union College in Le Mars. She lived in California from 1947 to 1951, when she moved back to the Remsen area.

She did bookkeeping and clerical work for various businesses in the area and for many years was employed at Huewe Insurance Agency in Remsen. She worked for Wells Dairy in Le Mars from 1970 until her retirement in 1986, at which time she moved to Sioux City.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, and Catholic Daughters of America in Remsen.

Survivors include a brother and his wife, Vernon and Lorraine Hatz of Le Mars. She will also be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, Sue, Steve, Lynn, Jayne, Kay and Joe; as well as Nick Delperdang and the rest of her loving grandnieces and grandnephews; and her favorite dog, Lucy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mildred in infancy and Margaret and her husband, Jack Zimmerman; and a niece, Anne (Zimmerman) Delperdang.
