AKRON, Iowa -- Alice Ruth (Trometer) Harvey, 81, of Akron died unexpectedly Friday, March 28, 2003, at her residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Union Creek Lutheran Church in rural Akron, S.D. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Akron. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 7:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Mrs. Harvey was born Jan. 11, 1922, to Andrew and Leota (Bogner) Trometer at Lake Benton, Minn. Her family moved from Minnesota to just outside Akron, S.D. She graduated from Akron High School in 1943. She worked as an egg candler and bookkeeper for Claey's Produce.

She married Kenneth Harvey on Feb. 8, 1945. They worked together and owned Harvey's Hardware in Akron. They enjoyed camping and yard work. Kenneth passed away June 6, 1999. She bowled for many years, She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, woodworking, puzzles of all kinds and being with her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Connie Bakker of Hawarden, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Rick and Ann-Marie of Arvada, Colo., and Mike and MaLinda of Akron; her grandchildren, Raquel and her husband, Paul Kolker of Le Mars, Iowa, Jessica, Amanda, Samantha, Benjamyn, Aaron and Alyson Harvey; a great-granddaughter, Katelyn Kolker; and two sisters and their husbands, Jeanette and James McPherson of Hawarden, Iowa, and Neva and James Hawks of Akron.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Andrea Harvey; two brothers, Merlin and Melvin; and three sisters, Blanche Trometer, Iona Clarey and Marilyn Titus.
