LE MARS, Iowa -- Glen M. Haage, 78, of Le Mars passed away suddenly Saturday, March 12, 2005, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township, rural Le Mars, with the Rev. Dan Gerrietts officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Heeren-McHale-Wilken Post 724 of Brunsville, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Glen Melvin Haage was born Nov. 7, 1926, the son of Fred and Johanna (Kruse) Haage, on the family farm in Johnson Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston Township. He attended country school near the family farm in Johnson Township. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to the family farm.

On June 27, 1957, he was united in marriage to Donna Mae Weyen at Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township. The couple farmed in Grant Township for a few years until moving to a farm in Johnson Township. They later moved to the family farm in Preston Township, where they continued to farm until semi-retirement in 1995. The couple continued living on the farm during retirement.

In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball with several different teams. Throughout the years, he had played for the Preston, Merrill and Craig teams. He enjoyed attending the Plymouth County Fair with his children and later with his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending his granddaughters' basketball games and sporting events. He loved the lifestyle of a farmer, tending to the crops and livestock.

He was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church, having served as a deacon, on the cemetery board and as sub-treasurer for the church. He was a very active member of the American Legion Heeren-McHale-Wilken Post 724 of Brunsville, having served as post commander and an active volunteer helping with the pancake breakfast.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Donna Mae of Le Mars; two daughters and their husbands, De Ann and Tom Lehner and their children, Dana and Tara, and Glenda and Doug Blezek and their daughter, Claire, all of Le Mars; a brother and his wife, Don and Doris Haage of Le Mars; a sister-in-law, Delores Balletti of California; eight nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Johanna (Kruse) Haage; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Herman and Anna Weyen.

Pallbearers will be Mark DeRaad, Melvin Plueger, Ralph Klemme, Gerald Hartman, Scott Plueger and Mike Vander Molen.
