REMSEN, Iowa -- John H. Hagert, 41, of Remsen died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Remsen. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

John H. Hagert was born Oct. 19, 1963, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Harold and Marie (Block) Hagert. He was raised in the Remsen area and received his education at St. Mary's Catholic School from which he graduated in 1982. He then attended Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa, graduating in 1985 with a degree in auto mechanics and truck and diesel. He was employed at the Remsen Co-Op elevator from the age of 15 until 1986. In March of 1986, he began his employment with Wells Blue Bunny in Le Mars until August of 2004, when he had to quit because of health reasons.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. John enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing and riding his motorcycle. He also participated in the Remsen Demolition Derby for over 20 years and was an avid NASCAR race fan. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his parents, Harold and Marie Hagert, of Remsen; a brother and his wife, Ron and Tammie, of Remsen; four sisters, Theresa and her husband, Bob Geary, of Elk Point, S.D., Mary and her husband, Gary Schwebach, of Remsen, Anna and her husband, Craig Siedlik, of Omaha, Neb. and Patty Hagert of Sioux City; as well as 12 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers will be Ron Hagert, Keith Arens, Herb Miller, Mike and Tyler Schorg and Roger Sudtelgte.
