LeMars, IA.--Special: Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ellen Kern, 70, who died Tuesday at a hospital here after a six-month illness, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church. Rev. Alvern Kinrade of LeMars and Rev. George Jennings of Minneapolis, Minn., a son-in-law of Mrs. Kern, will officiate. Burial will be in City cemetery here under direction of the Luken funeral home.
Mrs. Kern was born February 17, 1887, at Maurice, Ia. She was married to William Kern March 9, 1914, at Sioux City. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. George J. Jennings of Minneapolis, Mrs. Clyde Coppock and Mrs. Stanley Tindall, both of LeMars; two sisters, Mrs. E. T. Leavens of Denver, and Mrs. M.C. Steffens of Lynwood, Calif.; a brother, John Shoemaker of Ireton, Ia., and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Wm. Kern Expires at Hospital
Mrs. Mary Ellen Kern, 70, LeMars resident the last 43 years, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Sacred Heart hospital after six months of illness.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church. Clergymen officiating were Rev. Alvern Kinrade of LeMars and Rev. George Jennings of Minneapolis, a son-in-law of Mrs. Kern. Burial was in the city cemetery under the direction of Luken's funeral home.
Casket bearers were Arnold Coppock, Jack Tindall, Roy Jennings, Otto Kals, Joe Shilt, and Leslie Bowen.
Mrs. Kern was born Feb. 17, 1887, at Maurice, the daughter of Theodore and Louisa Paeper Shoemaker. Her marriage to William Kern took place March 9, 1914, at Sioux City.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Eastern Star.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. George (June) Jennings of Minneapolis, Mrs. Clyde (Helen) Coppock and Mrs. Stanley (Lois) Tindall, both of LeMars; two sisters, Mrs. E.T. Leavens of Denver and Mrs. M.C. Steffens of Lynwood, Calif.; a brother, Jack Shoemaker of Ireton, and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers.
