JAMES H. HOYT
James Horace Hoyt, 80, LeMars, lifelong Plymouth county resident, died Thursday (Dec. 29, 1983) at The Abbey in LeMars after an extended illness. He had lived in The Abbey since March 15.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, LeMars. Rev. Robert Hanthorn will officiate and burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and friends may meet with the family between 7 and 8 p.m.
Mr. Hoyt was born March 10, 1903, in Union Township to Harry C. and Blanche O. Lee Hoyt. He attended Union Consolidated School and was honored in July 1982 as the eldest (1921) Union graduate. He attended Iowa State College and Western Union College.
He served as deacon of the Presbyterian church.
His marriage to Evalyn M. Clagg took place Aug. 22, 1944, at the First Baptist Church, in LeMars.
Surviving are his wife, Evalyn, who resides at The Abbey in LeMars; a brother, Donald, Remsen; four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Shield, Pamona, Calif., Mrs. Ruth Burdett, Hemet, Calif., Mrs. William (Almerta) Fisk, Santee, Calif., and Mrs. Alvin (Betty L.) Joslin, Nashville, Ind., and many nieces and nephews.
