DONALD A. DUNHAM, SR.
WESTFIELD, Iowa—Donald Arthur Dunham, Sr., 82, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Westfield, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at his residence.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Elk Point, S.D., with the Rev. Harold Smith officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Akron, Iowa. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Mr. Dunham was born June 24, 1917, in Westfield, the son of Charles and Stella (Dunn) Dunham.
He married Ruth Carpenter on Oct. 28, 1939, in LeMars, Iowa. They farmed from 1942 to 1959, in Union County, S.D. He then worked employed with the State Highway Department of South Dakota for 18 years, while living in Elk Point. He retired in 1980. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1972.
He enjoyed playing horseshoes and was one of the top horseshoe pitchers in South Dakota.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carolyn and her husband, Ted St. Hilaire and Judy Miller, all of Eugene, Ore.; three sons, Don and his wife, Karen, of Sioux Falls, Calvin L. of Rowena, S.D., and Archie and his wife, Julie, of Sioux Falls; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Jacobson, of Akron; a brother, Leo of Elk Point; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, three sisters, a grandson and a daughter-in-law.
Pallbearers will be Don III, Mike, Steve, Tom, Forest and Larry Dunham.
