ELVERA DUNN

MARCUS, Iowa—Elvera Dunn, 75, of Marcus died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Donald Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Marcus. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 8 p.m., at Earnest and Roethler Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. Dunn was born July 11, 1925, in Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of David and Nora (Luchterhandt) Smith. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. She worked in Des Moines in 1944, and moved to Baraboo, Wis., in 1945, where she worked at BOW Munitions Plant toward the end of World War II. She married Cecil Dunn on April 13, 1946, in Cherokee, Iowa. He died in November 1986.

She worked at McKernan’s Grocery Store in Marcus in 1958 and 1959, and then worked at John Clarkson Grocery from 1960 to 1962. She returned to McKernan’s (now Jeff’s Foods) from 1970 until retiring in 1993.

She was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church from its beginning in 1946. She enjoyed knitting, puzzles and Scrabble. She was an avid bowler.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Patterson of Marcus, and Vicki and her husband, Bob Webber of Iowa City, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Phyllis and Harold Niichel of Granville, Iowa; two brothers and their wives, Leonard and Audrey Smith of Yankton, S.D., and Alvin and Donna Smith of Marcus; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
