Edna Marie "Babe" Anderson, 82, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars in Le Mars.
Edna Marie Trobaugh was born April 4, 1926, at Westfield, the daughter of John and Odessa (Leming) Trobaugh. As a young girl, Edna was given the lifelong nickname of "Babe" by her family as the youngest child. Babe received her education at a country school in rural Plymouth County. The family moved to the Riverside area of Sioux City and later to Le Mars in 1931.
Babe worked for Cudahay Pack in Sioux City when she met he future husband, Andy Anderson at work. Babe and Andy were united in marriage on Feb. 2, 1944, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Babe worked at the Mid-Town Bar and KD Corral in Le Mars for many years. She had also worked as a seamstress at Aalf's Manufacturing.
In her retirement years, Babe enjoyed embroidering and working crossword puzzles. She was quiet natured, but always had a smile. Babe was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Her husband Andy died in 2000.
Survivors include her six children: MaryAnn Hartman, Joyce Roeser and her husband Vincent, Diane Anderson, Donna VanderWell and her husband Dan, Dennis Anderson, and Debbie Anderson, all of Le Mars; six grandchildren: Brenda Pierce and her husband Dan, Bruce Hartman, Brent Hartman and his wife Heather, Chris Anderson and his wife Tracy, Kyle Anderson, and Katie Anderson and her fiancé Aaron Youngers; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack Trobaugh and his wife Maxine of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister Ethel "Tootie" Diaz of California; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Stream of Le Mars, Viona Headid of Sioux City, and Dorothy Trobaugh of Le Mars; two special family friends, Kathy Wiebersch of Des Moines and Deb Jones of Conroe, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Babe was preceded in death by her parents, John and Odessa (Leming) Trobaugh; her husband, Andy in 2000; two brothers, John Trobaugh and Robert Trobaugh and his wife Opal; a sister, Ida Arnett and her husband Harley; two grandsons, Brad and Byron Hartman; and two brothers-in-law, Harold Stream and Mahlon Headid.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. with the Rev. Greg Gabriel officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present after 5 p.m. to greet friends followed by a 7 p.m. prayer Service. Visitation will continue Friday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be Brent Hartman, Chris Anderson, Kyle Anderson, Milo Headid, Rick Stream, Richard Port, Gene Stinton, and Jeff Kayser. Honorary casketbearers will be Katie Anderson, Bruce Hartman, Brenda Pierce, and her great-grandchildren.
