Mary J. Anderson, 80, of Akron, died Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at the Akron Care Center in Akron.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. The Rev. Dawn Quame will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitations will be after 2 p.m. Sunday with the family present after 5 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home -- Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Mary J. Anderson, 80, of Akron, Iowa passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at the Akron Care Center in Akron.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2007 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Reverend Dawn Quame will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitations will be after 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2007, with the family present after 5:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Casket Bearers will be her grandchildren.

Mary Joan Anderson was born December 11, 1926 in Inwood, Iowa, the daughter of Helmer and Johanne (Severson) Moen. She was baptized and confirmed. She attended school in Inwood and graduated from Inwood Public Schools. She attended college and graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls with a teaching degree. She began her teaching career in Akron. While in Akron, she met Milton “Swede” J. Anderson. They were united in marriage on January 13, 1951 in Inwood, Iowa. After teaching for 6 years, she became a homemaker for her family. Mary and Swede farmed near Akron for many years. In April of 2006, they became residents of the Akron Care Center.

Mary was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron where she was active in L.C.W. and W.E.L.C.A. For 28 years, she served as church custodian. Mary also worked as a dietary cook for the Akron Care Center for 10 years. She and Swede were active in YoMaCo and Akron Dinner Club for many years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and traveling. But most of all, she loved being with family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband of over 56 years, Milton of Akron; 2 sons: Mark Anderson and his wife Sue of Mankato, MN, and Morey Anderson of Akron, IA; 2 daughters: Melissa Utesch and her husband Steve of Marcus, IA, and Merrilee Easton and her husband Rick of Westfield, IA; 8 grandchildren: Shawna Anderson of Mankato, MN, Nick Utesch of Jersey City, NJ, Bryan Utesch of Chicago, IL, Sarah Utesch of Omaha, NE, Tanner Utesch of Marcus, IA, Tyler Easton of Akron, IA, Brad and Nathan Easton of Akron, IA; 2 sisters: Jane Hansen and her husband Marlo, and June Katt and her husband Don; 1 brother: Henry Moen and his wife Marguerite; a sister-in-law: Dorothy Moen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister in infancy; a brother: Herman Moen; and 2 sisters: Angie Hanson and her husband Harland and Charlotte Anderson and her husband Don.
