Shirley Pavlik, 82, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Bickford Cottage in Sioux City.

Shirley Marie Pavlik was born March 26, 1925, in Le Mars, the daughter of Henry and Elsie (Gearke) Heidbrink. She graduated from Le Mars High School in 1943 and later the St. Joseph College of Nursing in Sioux City in 1946.

Shirley and Vincent Pavlik were united in marriage on Oct. 5, 1946. The couple made their home on a farm in Liberty Township, Plymouth County, Iowa. They later moved to Le Mars.

Shirley worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in the orthopedics department. She would later work as a public health nurse for Plymouth County.

Shirley was an active member of the Hinton United Methodist Church and later the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. She served on numerous boards and committees as well as participating with the Untied Methodist Women.

She was also active in many organizations and volunteer positions relating to her career in heath care. She belonged to the Iowa Nurses' Association, served on the Plymouth County Cancer Board, Floyd Valley Hospital Auxiliary, Plymouth County Public Health Nursing Services, Plymouth County Alcoholism Commission, Plains Area Mental Health Center Board, and the Plymouth County Board of Health. She also belonged to Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary (Wasmer Post #241) and was instrumental in the formation of the Perry Creek Watershed Project.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, David Pavlik and his wife Lana of Ames, Dan Pavlik of Merrill, and Mary Kovarna her husband Steve of Merrill; grandchildren, Eric Pavlik and his wife Kelly, Amy Pavlik, Beth Trejo and her husband Luis, and Kyle Kovarna; great-grandchildren Brennan and Hillel; and a brother, Kenneth Heidbrink and his wife Jean of Le Mars.

She was welcomed into heaven by her parents; husband Vincent; son Tommy; and an infant brother Donald.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. The Rev. Jason Larson will officiate. A family burial service will follow later at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 12 noon Sunday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service set for 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the service on Monday.
