Evelyn Pecks, 84, of Le Mars, died Monday, July 2, 2007, at Good Samaritan Village (Brentwood Center) of Le Mars.
Evelyn Delores Pecks was born on July 28, 1922 in Sioux City, the daughter of Ernest and Anna (Jesperson) Lund. She was baptized at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Sioux City and confirmed there on April 14, 1935. Evelyn attended school in Sioux City later graduating from East High School.
On Jan, 19, 1951 Evelyn and William Carl "Bill" Pecks were united in marriage at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The couple farmed for many years near Le Mars. Bill died suddenly on March 12, 1985. Evelyn remained on the farm for a short time before moving to Le Mars. She became a resident at Good Samaritan Village on June 26, 2006.
Evelyn was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She participated in WELCA and was a member of Sarah Circle. Evelyn served on Altar Guild for 25 years and was an assistant to Lay Pastor Celeste Stahmer for several years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Ella (Mrs. Kenneth) Calver of Ord, Neb.; two sisters-in-law Betty Johnson of Sioux City and Margaret Pecks of Le Mars; and numerous nieces, nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband William; an infant son William Ernest Pecks; and a brother Ernest Lund Jr.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Gary Landsness will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled for 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.
Pallbearers will be Mark Pecks, Carl Durr, Monte Russell, Gary Lund, Eric Lund, and Richard Calver.
