Norman Treinen, 89, of Remsen, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at The Marian Home in Fort Dodge.

Norman Treinen was born Feb. 13, 1918, in rural Remsen, the son of Nicholas and Anna (Wenner) Treinen, and was raised on a farm northeast of Remsen. He received his education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen, from which he graduated in 1935. He was then engaged in farming with his father.

On April 16, 1941, he married Lois Kemp at Remsen. They made their home near Remsen where they raised their seven children and were engaged in farming. Lois died May 18, 1960. On Jan. 20, 1962 he married Mathilda "Tillie" Schiltz Goergen at Remsen. They farmed near Remsen until retiring and moving into town in 1975. Tillie died Jan. 19, 1994.

On March 12, 1995 he married Marie "Betty" deMarteleire Weber Cusato at St. Peters Catholic Church in Naples, Fla. They spent their time between Naples and Remsen. In June 2003 they moved to The Marian Village Apartments in Fort Dodge and in November 2005, Norman became a resident of The Marian Home.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and golfing.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Fort Dodge; five sons, Daniel and his wife Rosemary of Hubbard Lake, Mich., Thomas of Barefoot Bay, Fla., Max and his wife Suzanne of Remsen, Wayne and his wife Linda of Laguna Hills, Calif., Richard and his wife Pat of Sioux City; two daughters, Mary and her husband Gerald Bruening and Rose Trienen, all of Fort Dodge; two stepdaughters, Irene Willey Bryke and her husband Stan, of Townsend, Del., and Gretchen Weber of Smyrna, Del.; 23 grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 22 great-stepgrandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Dixie Treinen of Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Edwin in infancy, Marion and his wife Angeline and Linus Treinen; and two sisters, Mary in infancy and Irene and her husband Ed Martin.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Msgr. Nicholas J. Ruba concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. by the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Knights of Columbus, all at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Casket Bearers will be his grandchildren. Honorary bearers will be members of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Knights of Columbus.
