Harvey H. Prieksat, 86, of Le Mars, died Tuesday July 31, 2007, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Harvey Hans Prieksat was born April 30, 1921, to Karl and Dora (Moeller) Prieksat at Rock Valley. He was raised and worked on farms in the Inwood and Rock Valley areas. He was employed by Hans Moeller near Rock Valley for seven years. In those days, he milked cows by hand and drove a six-horse team threshing and combining.

Harvey entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 20, 1943, and was discharged in December 1945. He served in the European theatre during World War II at Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes in France, in Germany and Central Europe.

After service in the Army, he returned to Iowa and farmed for his uncle Charley Moeller, built silos for Klinger Construction and later farmed eight years for Sam Kooima. He married Noema Buckley on Feb. 26, 1952 in Alton. He farmed in the Maurice and Le Mars areas for more than 20 years. Harvey and Noema raised nine children while living on the farm and later retired to a home in Le Mars.

Harvey was a member of the American Legion, Wasmer Post #241 and after his retirement he enjoyed his extra time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Noema and nine sons and daughters: Harlan and Linda (Hillrichs) Prieksat of Sioux City, Ray Prieksat of Haysville, Kan., Carl Prieksat of Le Mars, Diane (Klein) Prieksat of Le Mars, Bob and Jane (Gengler) Prieksat of Pierre, S.D., Doris and Rick Walke of Lake Worth, Fla., Paul and Brenda (Smith) Prieksat of Le Mars, Karen and Steve Thorpe of Baltimore, Md., Mark and Patience (Russell) Prieksat of Ft. Collins, Colo., Sue and Keith Helwig of Sioux Center; 18 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Karl and Dora Prieksat; a brother Harold and his wife Marge Prieksat; and a granddaughter, Jenna Rae Prieksat.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars with military honors provided by the American Legion, Wasmer Post #241. Visitation at the Feuerstein Funeral Home will be after 3 p.m. Thursday, where there will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and the Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Prieksat, Aaron Prieksat, Mason Prieksat, Joe Prieksat, Reede Walke and Kelly Greenfield.
