Leonard Majeres. 91, of Orange City and formerly of Remsen, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at Orange City Health System Hospital in Orange City.

Leonard Majeres was born Nov. 23, 1916, at rural Oyens, the son of Charles and Josephine (Schiltz) Majeres.

Leonard was raised and educated in the Oyens area and was then a farm laborer in the area. In 1941 he began doing custodial work for the parish of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church at Maryhill. On April 2, 1940, he married Rosella Vaske at Remsen and they made their home at Maryhill. In the spring of 1942, they moved to near Granville, to farm and in 1951 moved to a farm near Neptune. Rosella died Dec. 30, 1954.

On April 23, 1957 he married Lorna Krogman Roder at Remsen. They continued to farm near Neptune until Nov. 1, 1956, when they moved to a farm near Oyens. They moved into Remsen on Feb. 11, 1960, where he then began working at the Remsen Roller Mill. Several years later he began working for Plymouth County in their road maintenance department. He retired in 1981 but continued to work part time for the maintenance department until 1993. In 1999 they moved to Orange City. In October 2007 he entered the Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton and Knights of Columbus of Remsen. He was a past member of the Remsen Volunteer Fire Department for many years and for two years served as fire chief. He was a past member of the past Luxembourg Brotherhood of Remsen.

Survivors include his wife, Lorna of Orange City; six sons, Duane and his wife Florine of Remsen, Richard and his wife Judy of LeMars, twins, Donald and his wife Rose of Remsen and Ronald of Orange City, Robert and his wife Debbie of Le Mars, and Kevin and his special friend Sarah, both of Alton; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Judy in infancy; one great-granddaughter, Macie Majeres, in infancy; three brothers, Clarence, Cecil and Melvin; and one sister, Rosalind Luken.

His body was donated to science. Private memorial services with the Rev. John Vakulskas officiating, will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary Cemetery in Remsen.

The Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen is in charge of arrangements.
