Cyril N. Deitermann, 92, of Yankton, S.D., formerly of Luverne, Minn., died Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at South Dakota Human Services Center in Yankton.

He was born August 4, 1915, in Remsen, Iowa, the son of Henry and Anna (Kirpes) Deitermann. Later his family moved to Pipestone, Minn., where he attended high school until they moved to a farm in rural Luverne.

Cyril was united in marriage to Lorraine Crout on Jan. 2, 1941 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids. After their marriage they made their home in Luverne where Cyril worked for Hinckley as an electrician. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 26, 1946, where he was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon and the WWII Victory Medal.

After his military service, he owned and operated Deitermann Construction and built homes in Luverne and Lake Havasu, Ariz. He also did sewer and water construction work for municipalities.

Cyril and Lorraine raised their six children in Luverne where they were members of the St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. Cyril was also a member of the Luverne American Legion. In later years they lived in Arizona and Texas during the winter months. He enjoyed traveling and made trips to Mexico, Canada and Alaska. He also enjoyed fishing and flying his own aircraft.

Cyril is survived by two sons, Roger (Eileen) Deitermann, Brighton, Colo., and Morris Deitermann, San Diego, Calif.; three daughters, Marilyn Sullivan, Blaine, Wash., Roberta Getman, Austin, Minn., and Ramona (Ron) Scheer, Rowlett, Texas; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Angeline Willers, Sioux Falls, S.D., Lillian Willers, Luverne, Minn., and Martha Steinhoff of Sioux Falls, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1995; a daughter, Marcy Dowding, infant brother, Alvin; and four sisters, Eleanor Herrmann, Valeria Beelmann, Esther Ahrendt, and Junella VanBelle.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the Dingmann Funeral Chapel in Luverne, Minn., with the Rev. Tom Jennings officiating. Burial be at the St. Catherines Catholic Cemetery, in Luverne, with full military honors conducted by the Luverne American Legion & VFW. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Luverne and also one hour prior to the service.
