Dorothy L. Spin, 85, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars.

Dorothy Louise (Howard) Spin was born May 15, 1922, in Aurelius, N.Y., the daughter of the late Royal F. and Anna C. (Wiegref) Howard. She married William Spin in November 1953 had one daughter, Kathryn A. (Spin) Bartelli and then divorced in 1956. She resided in Auburn, N.Y., the Finger Lakes area of upstate New York, most of her adult life.

Dorothy loved adventure. She road motorcycles, went to Fireman's Carnivals and parades, camped the New England states, and socialized with friends. She retired from the General Electric Corporation in 1985 and followed her daughter and family to the St. Louis area in 1991. She babysat for her grandchildren, attended their events, took trips with other seniors, and enjoyed the St. Louis area until fall of 2005 when she moved to Char-Mac Assisted Living in Lawton, and then to Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars in September 2007.

Dorothy loved to travel, go out to eat, read, do puzzles, play bingo and Yatzee and spend time with her family. She laughed often and had a great sense of humor. Her family loves her, is very proud of her and will miss her very much.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathryn A. Bartelli and Kathy's husband Robert of Le Mars; two grandchildren, Nicholas R. Bartelli of Minnetonka, Minn., and Jessica M. Bartelli, Cedar Falls; one brother, John F. Howard and his wife Margaret of Port Charlotte, Fla., plus nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was predeceased by her brother, Royal F. Howard Sr. and by her parents.

Private family services will be held on Monday.

Memorials may be sent to either Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home or to the family in Dorothy's name for Hospice of Siouxland/Le Mars, Floyd Valley Hospital Auxiliary/Lifeline, or the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.
