Carol R. Steenhoven, 71, of Le Mars, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Carol Ramona Steenhoven was born Jan. 3, 1937, on the family farm in Nausau Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa to Nick and Johanna (Roghair) Steenhoven. When she was 8 years old, the Steenhoven family moved into Le Mars. She received her education in the Le Mars schools.

She worked for K-Products in Le Mars for 17 years and later worked as a domestic for several local families. She had also worked as a cake decorator for Hy-Vee for several years. Carol also sold greeting cards for many years to family and friends.

Carol was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars where she was active with the Lydia Circle for many years. She enjoyed playing cards and Yahtzee. Carol was also a very talented seamstress, having made clothes for herself and others. In later years she enjoyed making bead bracelets for family and friends.

Survivors include two brothers, John and Lillian Steenhoven of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Vic Steenhoven of Washington; several nieces and nephews: Roy and his wife Cindy Thoms, Todd and his wife Sherry Thoms, Debra Porter, Karen Steenhoven, Janice Steenhoven, Valarie Steenhoven, Stacey Kraft and husband Brad, and Cynthia Steenhoven; a brother-in-law, Jerry Thoms of Le Mars; a cousin Roger Roghair of Orange City; and many friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Johanna (Roghair) Steenhoven; a sister, Virginia Thoms; and a brother, Ivan Steenhoven.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. Larry Fett of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Inurnment of the cremains will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home with the family present after 6 p.m. to greet friends followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
