AKRON, Iowa -- Douglas G. Caskey, 51, of Akron passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center in Sioux City following a courageous five-month battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Adaville United Methodist Church, rural Akron, with the Rev. Ted Stowers officiating. Graveside services will be at a later date. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
Douglas was born Sept. 11, 1956, in Akron, to Darrel and Donna (Willer) Caskey. He was baptized in the Methodist faith. He graduated from Westfield High School. Douglas grew up and worked all of his life in the farming industry.
He was married to Sandra "Mickey" Stell on Aug. 15, 1984, in Akron. Mickey passed away on April 6, 2007, in Akron.
Douglas enjoyed bowling and was a member of two leagues. He loved to play Santa at family Christmas celebrations. He will be remembered for truly being a selfless person; everyone else came first to him.
Survivors include his mother, Donna (Glenn) Martin of Akron; a brother, Steve (Sharon) Caskey of Sioux City; a sister, Penny Caskey of Akron; a stepdaughter, Christa Walderbach of Bentonville, Ark.; a stepgranddaughter, Michele Walderbach of Bentonville; two stepsisters, Glenda (Kenneth) Edie of Robinson, Kan., and Brenda (Harry) Lewis of Hiawatha, Kan.; two nieces, Kandi Putzier of Lawton, Iowa, and Mary Caskey of Sioux City; a nephew, Casey Pulfrey of Hawarden, Iowa; close family friends, the Brown family; and two stepsons, Trevor Mell of Minnesota, and Brian Mell of Iowa City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Darrel Caskey; and his wife, Mickey Caskey.
