Elsie Rohlfs, 89, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars.
Elsie Johanna Rohlfs was born Sept. 2, 1918, in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter Gert and Johanna (Minets) Popken. She attended country school near her home and assisted her family with farming.
On Nov. 10, 1947, Elsie and Elmer Rohlfs were united in marriage in Le Mars. The couple made their home in Le Mars. In early years Elsie worked at Le Mars Fruit and Grocery. She later owned and operated Van's Motel on Highway 75 in Le Mars. More recently, Elsie worked at Life Skills Training Center in Le Mars.
Elsie was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and needlepoint.
She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons: Keith and Sandra Rohlfs of Omaha, Neb., William and Samantha Rohlfs of San Diego, Calif., and Dick and Regina Rohlfs of Topeka, Kan.; 10 grandchildren Theresa, Joseph, Sherri, Janet, Karen, Mike, Rick, David, Mark, and Kirk; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson Benjamin; and her brothers and sisters Anna Johnson, Adeline Janssen, George, Ernest, and Arthur Popken.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Greg Gabriel will officiate. Burial will follow at St. John Evangelical Cemetery, Craig. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church (there will be no visitation on Sunday).
The Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.
