George Reeves, 88, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at The Abbey of Le Mars.
Wilbur George Reeves was born Dec. 20, 1919 the son of William John and Sara Rose (Weber) Reeves. He is the fourth generation of Reeves' who originally homesteaded north of Seney. George was the youngest of five children who grew up on a farm near Seney. He attended school through the eighth grade and was then needed to help with the farming operation.
In January 1943 George and LeNora Douglas Peterson were united in marriage and began farming north of Le Mars. They raised three children: Gary Lee Reeves, Gene Arthur Reeves and Audrey Joy Reeves.
George's life revolved around the farm and everything that was to do with farming. He loved to socialize with people from all walks of life. He eagerly attended farm sales, chamber coffees, auctions, church socials, and was well known throughout northwest Iowa for his friendly, congenial personality. He was a man of great intelligence, abundant common sense and quick wit. He lived the past few years at The Abbey of Le Mars where he received excellent care from the staff and administration.
He will be lovingly remembered by his two sons: Gary and his wife Linda, and Gene and his wife Pam, both of Le Mars; a daughter Audrey Joy Reeves of Le Mars; 10 grandchildren Lorraine (Dan) Cross of Elkhorn, Neb., Gerald (Carmela) Reeves of Winchester, Ohio, Leita (Randy) Reiter of Le Mars, Greg Reeves of Sioux City, Garret (Sheila) Reeves of Le Mars, Katie (Scott) Pinkelman of Hartington, Neb., Amanda (Jim) Fico of La Mont, Ill., Philip Reeves of Le Mars, Shana (Scott) Gardner of Shawnee, Kan., Trisha Cockburn of Osawatomie, Kan.; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife LeNora; four siblings Pearl Viola (Reeves) Kurtz, Clarence William Reeves, Carolyn Elizabeth (Reeves) Strong, and Vera Mae (Reeves) Cummings.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The Rev. Leonard Waller of the Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the funeral home on Monday prior to the funeral.
Memorials may be directed to the Church of the Nazarene in Le Mars.
