LA VERNE GUENTHER

LE MARS, Iowa --- La Verne Richard “Jack” Guenther, 72, of LeMars, died Monday, May 29, 1995, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars with Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Merrill. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Guenther was born July 14, 1922, on the family farm near Arcadia, Wis., the son of Richard and Linda (Lorch) Guenther. He was raised and educated in the Arcadia area where he attended country school. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls Campus with a degree in agriculture. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He later received his master of science degree for the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. He taught agriculture at Cadott High School and Baldwin High School in Wisconsin. He also taught at Goose Bay, Labrador, Newfoundland at the Personnel Dependents High School. He taught at Kubasaki High School, Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan. He retired due to failing health in 1982 and moved to LeMars. He was an avid reader and enjoyed studying foreign languages, several of which he could speak.

Survivors include a sister and her husband, Lois and Neal Moyer of Des Moines, Wash.; a brother and his wife, Eugene and Marian Guenther of LeMars, and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
