JOHN E. FISCHER

LE MARS, Iowa --- John Edward Fischer “Jack” Fischer, 88, of LeMars, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., with the Rev. Jean Morse officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mr. Fischer was born Sept. 10, 1910, near Remsen, Iowa, the son of Edward and Mary (Ressen) Fischer. He attended country school near Remsen.

He married Evelyn Blackmore on Nov. 20, 1942, in Merrill, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Merrill and LeMars area for many years. He also worked for American Popcorn Co., in Sioux City, for several years retiring in 1975. The couple made their home in LeMars for the last 36 years. He had been a resident of Brentwood since December 1998.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., and enjoyed gardening, fishing and bird watching.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, David and Helen of LeMars; a daughter and her husband, Jeanette and Leroy Reichenbach of Sioux City; two brothers, William and his wife, Lydia, of Merrill and Eugene “Buddy” of LeMars; two sisters, Marie Vroman of Moline, Ill., and Irene and her husband, Bob Neighbors, Rock Island, Ill.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Blackmore, Mathew and Keane Fischer, Leroy Reichenbach Jr., Kenneth Sherman and Paul Hartman.
