ROBERT C. DENNLER
MERRILL, Iowa --- Robert Charles Dennler, 79, of rural Merrill died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at Indian Hills Care Center in Sioux City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Melbourne United Methodist Church, rural Merrill, with the Rev. Sara Malone officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars, Iowa.
Mr. Dennler was born June 22, 1919, in rural Merrill, the son of Charles and Albena (Spies) Dennler. He attended country grade school and graduated from Merrill High School in 1937.
He farmed with his father and did carpentry work.
He married Blanche E. Hawkins on June 25, 1952, in Seney, Iowa.
He was a member of Melbourne United Methodist Church. He was a Plymouth Township trustee and served on the Plymouth County Board of Adjustment from 1982 to 1998. He was a co-founder of Town and Country Toy Club.
He enjoyed collecting antique tools and model tractors, woodworking and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Susan and Mark Leonard of Merrill and Peggy and Allan Smith of rural Merrill; four grandchildren, Casey and Samuel Leonard and Nathaniel and Janora Smith; a brother-in-law, Howard Dobbins of Merrifield, Minn.; and a step sister-in-law, Jean Gritzmaker, of rural LeMars, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Dobbins.
Pallbearers will be James Bogenrief, Bedford Newberg, Walter Hartman Jr., Delmar Carroll, Dan Bohlken, and Duane Herman.
