Harold Betsworth, longtime Merrill man, passed away at the Sacred Heart hospital following a week’s sickness. He passed away on May 23, 1956.
Mr. Betsworth was born April 6, 1898, at Merrill. He was married to the former Dorothy Elsen at LeMars on July 28, 1920.
Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist church, Merrill, on Saturday, May 26, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Merrill, under the direction of the Luken funeral home in LeMars. Rev. Donald Harbour will officiate at last rites.
The body will be taken to the church at noon Saturday where the casket will be opened until 1:30. Friends may call at the church at this time. Friends may also call at the Luken Funeral Home after 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Harry Mattas, Frank Michalosky, Walter Schuette, Eldo Keiser, Charles Kluver, and C.W. Brunstedt.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Mrs. Earl (Delores) Schmitz of Ontario, California; two sons, Harold, in the U.S. Army stationed in France and Maurice of Merrill. Also surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Frank Calhoon, Mrs. Charles Brown, Mrs. Clarence Cummickel, and Mrs. Everette Simon, all of LeMars, and Mrs. Roy Baldwin, of Merrill; eight grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edgar and Jerome.
