DR. RICHARD F. BOYLAN

LE MARS, Iowa --- Dr. Richard F. Boylan, 60, of Cairo, Egypt, formerly of LeMars, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho.

Private graveside services will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Dr. Boylan was born Feb. 9, 1938, in LeMars, the son of Wendell H. and Lois S. Boylan.

He graduated from LeMars Community High School in 1956, received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Arizona and his master of arts degree in journalism and his PhD in communication theory from the University of Iowa.

He married Margie K. Stoy on May 3, 1959, in Iowa City, Iowa.

He taught at Boise State University and colleges and universities in Montana, Iowa, and California. He taught at the American University in Cairo for eight years. He was also a newspaper correspondent and published numerous articles and papers in various journals. He enjoyed sailing, scuba diving and photography.

Survivors include his wife, Suzan Iohsen Salah Eldin; a stepdaughter, Orchid, of Cairo; two sons and their wives, Mark and Camilla of Dyersville, Md., and Jonathan and Sally of Boston, Mass.; two daughters and their husbands, Lisa and Dusty Katsuki and Dr. Anne and Steve Clohessy, all of Boise; his mother of LeMars; a brother and his wife, Hugh and Carol of LeMars; six grandchildren; three nieces and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father and an infant sister, Patricia.
