MAN KILLED WHEN AUTO HITS BUGGY
CHRIS [Curtis] STROHM, PIERSON FARMER, IS VICTIM.
FOUR OTHERS ARE INJURED
Crash comes on Bridge, Mile West of the Town ---Party Was Returning from Dance When Machine Ran Into Rig
Five young men returning from a dance at Peirson, Ia., at 1:30 o’clock this morning were hurled into a ditch when the motor car in which they were riding crashed into a buggy on a bridge a mile west of Pierson and turned over.
Chris[Curtis] Strohm, who lives two miles west of Pierson, was killed. The top of this head was torn off. Four other occupants of the motor car were seriously injured, Weir McCurdy, the occupant of the buggy, escaped serious injury, although his rig was smashed to splinters.
The injured men are:
Dell Copprell, of Oklahoma.
Robert Woods, garage proprietor, Peirson.
John Weinrich, a farmer, Pierson.
Leonard Beethley, a farmer.
Weinrich was believed to be in a precarious condition today. He was removed to his home near Pierson, where doctors were unable to determine how seriously he was hurt.
The two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when they crashed together on the bridge. The automobile top was down and the five occupants were thrown violently into the road. Strohm’s head struck the front axle of the buggy, and large section of his scalp was torn away. He died almost instantly.
McCurdy, who was riding in the buggy, was thrown to one side of the road. He escaped with bruises.
The automobile was owned by Strohm.
Coroner Elmer Blood went to Peirson this morning to investigate the accident.
