Mrs. Lena Gabel Long Resident Is Taken By Death
Wife of Prominent Johnson Township Farmer Succumbs To Heart Trouble
Funeral Held Monday
Family of Eight Daughters and Many Grandchildren
Mrs. Gabel, 62, wife of Milton Gabel, well known resident of Plymouth County nearly all her life, died at her home 908 First avenue S.E., Thursday night from heart trouble. She was confined to her bed for a week before her death.
Lena Herbst was born at Adeline Ill., February 5, and when a girl nine years of age came with her parents to LeMars. They located in Marion township on their arrival here.
She received her early education in the schools and assisted in the work of the farm. She was married to Milton Gabel February 13, 1900. They farmed successfully for many years in Johnson township. A year ago they established a home in LeMars.
Mrs. Gabel leaves to mourn her death, her husband, Milton Gabel, and eight daughters, Mrs. Mabel Herman, Johnson township; Mrs. Martha Phillips, Preston; Mrs. Edith Burkett, Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. Alice Willer and Mrs. Mildred Stoll of Akron; Lilly, Leona and Evelyn at home; a brother Henry Herbst, and a sister, Mrs. Louisa Wolf of Sheldon. There are 18 grandchildren.
Mrs. Gabel was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was affiliated with the United Brethren church at Adaville and its kindred societies and was active in church circles and in worthy objects for the betterment of the community. When a girl she was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the residence with services at the First Baptist church. Rev. S. A. Jones conducted the services and interment was made in the city cemetery.
