MRS. GABEL IS DEAD
Was a Resident of Iowa All Her Life
Had Been Ill For a Long Time
The deceased was born at Clinton and was married at that place.
She and her husband came here thirty-five years ago.

Mrs. Gabel, wife of Michael Gabel, residing at 1500 Franklin Street, this city, passed away at her home on Thursday after a long illness at the age of 64 years. Mrs. Gabel had been in poor health for the past two years and a half suffering from a chronic trouble with complications.

Mrs. Gabel had lived in Iowa all her life. Her maiden name was Martha Goodenow and she was born near Clinton on March 5, 1855, where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage with Michael Gabel at Clinton on March 26, 1873. Following their marriage they moved to Sac County, where they bought a quarter section of land for $5 an acre. They improved and developed the land and added to the farm by toil and industry purchasing another quarter section farm. In 1885 they traded their land for a half section farm in Preston Township and moved to this county. Mr. and Mrs. Gabel continued to prosper in their new location and with the help of their children acquired more riches and land and now own over seven hundred acres. Mr. and Mrs. Gabel retired from active farm life in 1907 and came to LeMars buying a fine residence in the southeast part of town, where they made their home enjoying the fruits of long and arduous years of toil, frugality and industry.

To their union ten children were born: Milton, George and Frank of Johnson township, Merton, Ernest and Arthur, of Preston Township, Mrs. Hugo Bellander of Utica, S.D., Mrs. Dick Bohlken of Akron, Iowa, and Miss Jessie Gabel of LeMars, and Leo Gabel of Cole, S. D.

The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence and services will be held at the First Presbyterian church at 3 o'clock, Rev. H. V. Comin, officiating
Mrs. Gabel was a loving wife and mother, a kindly neighbor and enjoyed the esteem and affection of a large number in the community where she lived for the past generation of time.
