Body Mrs. Foley Floating In Cistern
The body of Mrs. Jim Foley, 60, was found Saturday morning in a cistern on her farm near Akron.
Her husband found the body at about 9 a.m. He had gone to Akron earlier to get groceries.
Mrs. Foley was on week end leave from the mental institute at Cherokee.
Saturday night S. H. Luken, Plymouth county coroner, who conducted an investigation, termed the death an accidental drowning.
The lid was off the cistern and apparently Mrs. Foley fell in and was not able to save herself, the coroner stated.
Other members of the family were in the field and Mr. Foley was in Akron. When he returned Mrs. Foley was not in the house. The body was found in the cistern soon after he returned.
A son, Robert, lives at home and Gordon farms next door to the home place.
Ida Ostrom was born November 13, 1897 in Grant township. The family lived at Eagle Lake, Minnesota until three years ago when they moved to Akron. She was united in marriage with James Foley in Minneapolis on February 10, 1923.
Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph’s church, Ellendale, but the date is pending awaiting word from a son, Sp/3 Richard Foley, aboard the U.S.S. Mitchel enroute home from the Army in Korea. The Red Cross is trying to locate the ship. Place of burial has not been determined. Arrangements are under direction of the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home in LeMars.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Miss Corrine Foley of Newcastle, Wyoming; four sons, Gordon and Robert of Akron, Sp/3 Richard in Army and Donald of Eagle Lake, Minnesota. There are four grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Donald Westphal of Eagle Lake and Mrs. John Mahowald of Los Angeles.
