Paul Dull, county attorney elect, dies Sunday after long illness
Paul E. Dull, 53, LeMars, recently elected Plymouth county attorney, died Sunday (Nov. 19, 1972) at Sioux City St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after a 3-week illness.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic church with Msgr. Dean Walker officiating.
Burial will be in Plymouth Presbyterian cemetery in Johnson Township under direction of Luedtke funeral home. Post 241, American Legion, will conduct military rites at the graveside.
St. Joseph parish rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Luedtke funeral home. Knights of Columbus will say the rosary at 8 p.m.
Casketbearers will be Dr. Don Meylor, Robert Roseberry, Jim Bowers, Jack Hentges, Doyle Nielsen and Frank Koenecke.
Mr. Dull was born July 28, 1919, near Cherokee. He married Bonnie Burgard July 15, 1943 in Philadelphia.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Westmar college and his law degree from the University of Iowa. He served as a bomber pilot with navy in world war 2 and was assigned to a carrier base in the Pacific.
After the service he returned to Marshalltown and served as a field man for the Farm Bureau there and Webster City. He served as legal advisor for Monarch Life Insurance Co. at Louisville, Ky. and Detroit.
He returned to LeMars in 1964 and has practiced law here since. He was elected county attorney Nov. 7.
The Plymouth county board of supervisors will now make an appointment to fill the county attorney post. The winning Republican party will make a recommendation to the board which will then make the final decision on the appointment.
Mr. Dull was past exalted ruler of the Elks lodge 428, LeMars; a member of Wasmer post 241, American Legion; Trinity council Knights of Columbus; Floyd Valley Barbershoppers and was active in the LeMars Community theater productions.
Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. R. A. Scott of Bossier, La., and Margaret and Beverly Dull, both at home; six sons, James of Iowa City, Jay in the navy and Mark, Bill, Dan and Don, all at home; his father Emery of Cherokee and four brothers, Burton of LeMars, Glenn of Phoenix, Ariz., Ivan of Dubuque and Max of Dewitt.
